Below is an excerpt from the Town of Conover Board minutes from 2/15/2025 following up on the public hearing about the improvements to 2.8 miles of Baker Lake Road from West Stormy Lake Road to the town limit. The recommendation addresses regrading and widening the roadway to 30 feet but is silent on the Wisconsin Department of Transportation standard requiring a 66’ right of way (33' each way from the centerline).

Baker Lake Rd/Project Alternatives – After the public hearing, (Conover Public Works Director) John Barnekow was asked to reach out to (road contractor) Pitlik and Wick about alternates to Baker Lk. Rd. or an alternative road to work on if we can’t come to an agreement with the home owners on Baker Lk. Rd.”

Option 1 (More limited): “John explained option 1 leaves it at the current width, but Pitlik and Wick would build up the road to create area for the road to drain. The cost of this is $785,172.00.”

Option 2 (Expanded): “Widen the road to 30 ft to make it easier for two vehicles to safely drive past each other, build a better road with better drainage to protect the wetlands. The cost of this is $913,007.00.”

Joe (Muehlbach) made a motion to accept option 2. (Board chair) Karl (Jennrich) second.  Discussion to have John reach out to Pitlik and Wick to have a construction meeting prior to the start of road work. Motion passed with all voting aye.”
